“It [The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act ] includes $300 million to buy new cars for the government, $8 billion for high-speed rail projects, such as a “magnetic levitation” line from Las Vegas to Disneyland, and $140 million for something called “volcano monitoring.” Instead of monitoring volcanoes, what Congress should be monitoring is the eruption of spending in Washington, D.C.”
– Bobby Jindal in the Republican response to President Obama’s Address to Congress, February 24, 2009 (5:07 into video)

Now that Mt. Redoubt in Alaska is erupting and threatening the lives and economy of that state, maybe Gov. Sarah Palin can tell Bobby Jindal where to stick it. I’m sure that there are tons of federal funds being spent on hurricane monitoring. Maybe Palin should speak out against that wasteful spending just before the next hurricane season begins.
